Dear Brothers & Sisters -

This morning I want to share a personal note. An incredible, exciting thing will occur for me during the 9 AM service this morning you might not know about.

Since I turned 60, I made, after much prayer, a decision to "go public" with my lifelong struggle with Bipolar II Depression. I have shared this with you and with my men's group (Castillo-Hurlburt). In fact, once last semester I had an opportunity to share this with the entire Men's Ministry. I was surprised how well it was received!

What I hadn't shared was the prevalence of Seasonal Affective Disorder with Bipolar II:

"Bipolar II disorder has the highest prevalence of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) among mood disorders, with 15-22% of individuals with bipolar disorder experiencing significant seasonal patterns in their mood. While SAD often presents as WINTER DEPRESSION, those with bipolar disorder (specifically Bipolar II) may also experience manic or hypomanic episodes in the spring/summer, creating a "seasonal pattern" specifier for their disorder." I will often literally shake with fear at the prospect of winter -- especially during below-freezing temperatures. The feeling of being trapped alone for long periods of time plays havoc in my mind -- despite near constant prayer -- and it can send me into a dark place.

So I'm happy to report that this morning at 9 we will enter church below freezing, and then after 10 leave above freezing! And by most forecaster's predictions, it will be the last freezing day this Winter!

I know that some of you have had some difficulty accepting that "mental" diseases are "real" and are really just attacks from the Enemy. My testimony to you is that BOTH are real! So please continue to pray for me, as I will for you.

Now on to more exciting news! I am pretty confident that we will be able to continue "The Mission at Takara" with our 6:45 - 8 Bible Study next week! As a reminder we will be looking very closely at the end of John 14 (v. 15-31) where "Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit."

I have already written some of my thoughts/insights into it -- now I look forward to hearing yours! Rod and I will continue to co-lead (thank you Rod!) the study, but as you may have observed, one of our goals is to see the continued active participation and contribution to the discussion from each of you! It's exciting to see!

I will send an update on Thursday. Many blessings! I love you all - Rob
